a carbon neutral company
Natural balance for healthy skin is the ethos of the evolu brand.
This principle of balance also guides our focus on sustainability. As an ethical company we seek to balance environment-conscious thinking with actions that are practical, progressive and measurable.
On these criteria we believe one of the most meaningful actions we can undertake is to address our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Evolu has recently attained the status of a carboNZero certified small enterprise.
The carboNZero programme is internationally recognised and was developed by Landcare Research, a New Zealand Government owned Crown Research Institute. It is the only accredited ISO 14065 GHG verifier outside of the USA and the world’s first GHG certification scheme to receive international accreditation by the Joint Accreditation System – Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) which comes under the auspices of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
This means that the carboNZero programme offers a framework for businesses here and overseas to measure and report their carbon footprint with confidence and credibility, as it has been verified against a global standard, and is accepted in 50 major world economies.
Prior to obtaining our carboNZero certified small enterprise status, we measured and reduced our GHG emissions, and then offset our remaining unavoidable emissions, by purchasing credible and verified carbon credits. We were also required to have independent verification.
The process of evolu's carbon-neutral certification consisted of three key steps:
Step 1. Measure
This involved using international best practice to measure the GHG emissions that evolu emits. Evolu company processes were evaluated and applicable emission sources inventoried. These were identified as:
Energy - electricity and gas (including energy used by contract suppliers on evolu's share of their operations)
Fuel - company vehicles and staff travel
Freight - domestic and international
Air Travel - domestic and international
Data for these sources was inventoried for a year, and independently audited by Prescott Horn Ltd, a carboNZero programme authorised verifier.
Step 2. Manage
This required evolu to formulate and implement an Emissions Reduction Plan for managing, and wherever possible, reducing its GHG emissions. In order to maintain our certified status, this plan is monitored, evaluated and updated quarterly on an ongoing basis.
Step 3. Mitigate
Any remaining unavoidable emissions are offset through the purchasing and cancelling of verified high quality carbon credits from the TrustPower Tararua II windpower project. Details of the selection and credentials of the credits that the carboNZero programme support are published on the carboNZero website.
It's important to note that carbon-neutral certification for evolu applies to our company's operations and processes. We do not claim that any individual products in our range are carbon neutral.
